2010 Classroom Technology Awards for teachers

NOTE: The Classroom Technology Awards grant programs is NOT the same as the Bright Ideas grant program. They are 2 separate and distinct programs. On-line applications for the Bright Ideas grants will be be available on April 19 at www.ncbrightideas.com.

  • Beginning April 1, Wake Electric seeks Classroom Technology Awards grant applicants from North Carolina teachers serving 1) grades K-12 and 2) area community colleges.

  • Grants will be awarded in any discipline for specific technology such as computers, digital cameras, scanners, and software.  The technology must benefit the students in the classroom. Wake Electric will distribute up to $20,000 in Classroom Technology Awards funds.

  • Public school teachers in Durham, Franklin, Granville, Johnston, Nash, Vance and Wake counties are eligible to apply.

  • Winners will be notified by October 11, 2010 and money will be awarded by the 1st week in November 2010.

How to apply

  • When applying for the grant, be sure to be creative in your explanation and description of why you need this equipment.

  • Each year, many teachers request money for the same types of technology - you want to make sure that your grant request STANDS OUT from similar requests.

  • Show original, outside-the-box ideas in how you will utilize this equipment in your classroom and why your students will benefit from the technology you are seeking money for.

  • Click here to begin the application process - NOTE: only on-line applications will be accepted. The deadline to submit applications is Sept. 13, 2010.

  • If you have any questions, contact Angela Perez, Public Relations/Communications Specialist, at angela.perez@wemc.com or call 919-863-6376 or 1-800-474-6300.

  • If you have received a CTA grant in the past, in order to be eligible to receive a 2010 grant, you must provide a one page typed summary of the project outlining how the project proved successful and/or benefited your students. Photos and samples of projects are welcomed and encouraged.
