Community Programs
Wake Electric believes in giving back to the communities it serves. We believe that it is our responsbility to make the local region a better place for our members to live, work and play. As good community stewards we offer a broad range of awards and youth programs that include scholarships, conferences, and grant-giving. Our programs include:
Bright Ideas teacher grants
Each year, Wake awards up to $50,000 in grants for area teachers
The Rural Electric Youth Tour for high-school juniors
Wake Electric sends high-achieving students on an exciting, all-expense-paid trip to Washington D.C. for one week in June. Also, the Tourists receive a $1,000 scholarship.
"Give Us An A" Contest
Students who make an "A" (or the equivalent) at schools in Johnston, Wake, Granville, Vance, Nash, or Franklin counties can submit their report cards to be entered into a drawing to win a $50 U.S. Savings Bond.
Operation Roundup
Area non-profit organizations can submit applications quarterly to receive up to $5,000 in grants.
Wake Electric Scholarships for students
Classroom Technology Awards for teachers
Each year, Wake awards thousands of dollars in grants to area teachers to purchase technology equipment for the classroom.
